Texas and Austin Top Jobs, Business HQ Lists at Forbes, Fortune

The burnt-orange t-shirt seen occasionally around the McCombs School with the phrase "Texas Means Business" is becoming more true it seems with every passing day. In two recent business rankings from Fortune and Forbes, Texas has risen to the top, as the statistics suggest the Lone Star State is better positioned than others during these difficult economic times. In this year's Fortune 500/1000, the magazine's annual ranking of America's largest corporations, Texas increased its advantage as the state with the most companies listed. Texas now has 118 companies in the Fortune 1000, with California and New York having 98 and 94, respectively. Last year, Texas had 113, California 103 and New York 93. In a Forbes listing of the Best Big Cities for Jobs, Austin came in first, and in fact the top five were all in Texas. So why does Texas seem to be better off than, say, California? Do you think Texas will continue this trend in the future? Leave a comment below - we'd love to hear your thoughts.

#1 low taxes and an environment

low taxes and an environment that fosters production and creativity (in certain areas).

#2 If you are a pro - non worker

If you are a pro - non worker with your hand out generation to generation, stay away from Texas, this mean state execpts you to work for your daily bread. A few other states like Texas have the same outlook. If you are a cry baby, eating pom poms in front of the TV while waiting for your state free-b check, pack up and drive to
California. There you will find your mail box full of state IOU's.
